Truth be known, most stay at home moms are overjoyed for that first day back to school after the Christmas break. I, for one, thought I would enjoy some leisure time while my boys were back in school. However - some precious kiddos close to our family needed a place to hang out for the day, so I rose to the challenge. My niece, Josie, and our friend, Aiden, spent the day with us. As always, bloggable moments arose, and I even carried a notebook with me so I wouldn't forget them. Here are some favorites:
Josie brought up the death of beloved aunt Florine (Flo). She went into graphic detail about aunt Flo's body being pulled out of the metal cooler thing so that her grandpa could spend some time with his "dead sister" (her words - I'm not kidding). She wanted me to drive her to Winfield to see the grave site. I told her it was too far, and she didn't press it.
Aiden forgot his backpack as we were taking him to school. He spent about 5 full minutes listing off possible alternatives including using a Walmart sack, borrowing Mason's backpack...etc. After the fifth minute, Josie had enough and said to me, "Would somebody puhhhllleeze just shoot me?"!!! Did I mention she's 9?
As we drove by the Warren Theatre, Josie asked me if I'd ever been there. I explained that I had gone there many times, and that the last time I was there my wallet fell out of my purse and $200 was stolen. I told her that I suspected an employee based on where the wallet was left and where it was turned in. She said, "It was probably a black dude...you know how black dudes are." I wouldn't post that here except that I'm pretty sure no black people read my blog, and if any do - they know me well enough to giggle.
I took the kids to Wendy's for lunch and Aiden kept quietly saying, "Butt". No one would have heard him and no harm was done. However, Mason felt the need to shout, "MOM - AIDEN IS SAYING BUTT!" Then - everyone knew and a lot of people giggled.
Throughout the day, Aiden referred to himself as "Josh". I wasn't sure if we were all supposed to call him Josh, and since he didn't ask us to - I just called him Aiden.
